The following table summarizes our electric bark collar reviews. The reviews include Innotek, PetSafe, Dogtra, Dogtek, and Tritronics Dog Bark Collars. Bark collars work by detecting your dog's bark and responding with some type of correction in order to deter the problem behavior. There are three main types of bark collars. Electric bark collars (below) use a static shock to deter barking and are the most common and effective bark collar. Citronella bark collars use a refillable aerosol spray to deter barking and are generally less effective, working less consistently and appropriate only for light barkers. Ultrasonic bark collars use a high pitched sound, and are the generally the least effective, suitable only for very submissive dogs.

Electric shock collars give your dog a static shock correction when they bark. Pairing this negative stimulus with the barking behavior quickly stops the dog from barking. We find this type of electric bark collar to be the most reliable method for quickly stopping barking.
The static shock is the same kind of shock you get when stepping out of a car and touching the door. It is unpleasant, and a very unusual sensation for dogs. The sensation is so unpleasant and immediate that nearly all dogs stop barking after just a couple of corrections.
Most shock collars have multiple correction levels. Some increase the correction level if a dog repeatedly barks without. We find these less effective. They basically give the dog a couple of free barks before the strong correction kicks in. While it might seem more humane to give the dog a warning, this effectively teaches the dog that they can bark a couple of times. We prefer the learning collars that find a level and stick to it. Next best are collars that let you set the correction level
