The PetSafe Deluxe Little Dog Bark Collar (PBC00-12726) is the smallest available dog bark collar. It is about half the size of an average no-bark collar. With its smaller receiver size, lighter weight, and lower correction levels, this is the best choice for dogs under 12 lbs and even as small as 5 lbs. The collar has dual sensors that reduces false alarms and allows owners to select from 10 learning correction levels.

The new model of the PetSafe Little Dog Bark Collar, Customizable was released in 2011, adding the ability to cover the collar with colored skins, and improving the quality of collar band.

Bark Sensor

The PetSafe Little Dog Bark Control collar has a dual bark sensor combining both a microphone and a vibration sensor. This means that both the microphone has to detect a barking sound and the vibration sensor needs to detect vibration on the dog’s vocal chords in order for the collar to trigger. This greatly reduces the number of false corrections, as the collar cannot be triggered by a neighbor’s dog barking or the collar bumping on a hardwood floor.

One small drawback is there is not testing tool with the collar, which makes testing the collar a bit difficult. The best way we have found is to rub it against a rough surface while ‘barking’ and watch to see the indicator light turn red. Try not to let your neighbors see you do this.

Correction (Static Shock)

The PetSafe PBC00-12726 has ten correction levels which are controlled by the brains of the collar. The collar learns from past experience, increasing and decreasing the correction as necessary to find the right level to deter your dog from barking. While we find this learning mode works well, we would have liked to see a manual override on the collar so that you could set the collar correction level manually.

When the collar triggers the LED light turns red. However, there is no accompanying tone. We prefer collars to beep to indicate there was a correction as it is easier for owners to hear a beep when they aren’t paying attention to the dog than it is for them to see a light on the underside of the collar.

Battery

The PetSafe Deluxe Little Dog Bark collar uses PetSafe’s proprietary RFA-188 battery. The battery costs around $10 and lasts approximately 2 months, longer if you switch the collar OFF when not in use. Being tethered to this expensive proprietary battery is an annoyance and we would prefer the collar to use a regular battery or even better a rechargeable battery. Unfortunately there is nothing this small with either of those features.

Collar Band

The collar on the new PetSafe Little Dog bark collar is a thin nylon cloth band with a quick snap buckle style clasp. This is a definite improvement on the older model (PBC00-10782) that used a rubber collar band and a buckle style clasp.

The collar can be used on dogs with a neck circumference between 5 and 18 inches. However, for dogs at the lower end of that range, you need to make new holes in the collar – since the pre-drilled holes will not let you make the collar much less than 8 inches.

Customizable Skins

For those that want their anti-bark collar to be a fashion accessory, the PetSafe little dog bark collar also has colored skins. The skins are available in blue, orange, pink, red, and green. The skins are rubber and stretch over the collar receiver. They also include a new matching collar band.

Conclusion

The PetSafe Little Dog is our top choice for dogs less than 12 lbs primarily due to its small size. The collar also has dependable dual sensor system that reduces the number of false alarms. Although there is not manual override option, the learning correction system is a definite plus as it helps find the minimum stimulation necessary to eliminate barking. The only significant negative of this system is that it uses a proprietary PetSafe battery.
